Hunslet built their first narrow gauge 0-4-0 tank loco in 1870 for the Dinworic Slate Quarry, and dozens more were made for the slate quarries in North Wales. These little engines were perfect for moving the heavy loads of slate around, being able to run on low quality track and in bad weather, and many of them survive today in preservation.
